Like a bolt from the blue (well, mostly red), the redesign of Spidey’s new costume from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has made its first appearance on the web from SuperHeroHype.com.
As director Marc Webb has teased, it features bigger eyes, though the “gnarly web shooters” we were promised are not yet in evidence. Having caught our first glimpse of the costume last week, now we can see that the colors are lighter than the one from the first Amazing Spider-Man, with the patterns of lines across his face and chest once more resembling webbing, as it did in the Sam Raimi‘s series. Similarly, the Spider logo is far closer to the one worn by Tobey Maguire‘s incarnation than the more fragmented, graffiti-like version featured in the first of Andrew Garfield‘s outings as the wall-crawler.
In fact, the whole thing bears a marked resemblance to Mark Bagley‘s version of the character from the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man, which ran between 2000 and 2009 (a comparison first made by ComingSoon.net)
As if that wasn’t enough, photos have turned up online, shot by members of the press, of scenes from the film being shot in public near Times Square, and which feature star Andrew Garfield in the new costume. Perhaps most interestingly, there are a pair of shots of Shailene Woodley in costume as Mary Jane Watson.
While they don’t reveal much of anything with regards to the plot of the sequel to the 2012 reboot, they are nevertheless the first photos we have from behind the scenes. More on this as it breaks.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due out on May 2nd, 2014, and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.
