Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Adds Jason Clarke

Heat Vision has revealed that Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke has been cast in Matt ReevesDawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the sequel to 2011’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. It’s been reported that the film will pick up 15 years after the events of Rise and will focus around a group of scientists struggling to survive in a San Francisco ravaged by pissed-off, hyper-intelligent primates.

Andy Serkis is due to return to mo-cap and voicing duties as Caesar, the ape responsible for the global uprising at the end of the first film. James Franco, who played Caesar’s “owner”, the man responsible for the simian rebellion, is not expected to appear. Reeves, meanwhile, takes over directorial duties from Rupert Wyatt, with Peter Chernin, Dylan Clarke, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa producing Mark Bomback’s script.

It is not yet known how much this film will draw on the original Planet of the Apes timeline. Rise  included a few hints that it might be set in the same world, namely the inclusion of the Icarus space mission and the reveal that it has disappeared (presumably through the time warp that would take it to the future of the very first Apes film).

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes begins shooting in the spring and is due for release on May 23rd, 2014.
