Keri Russell Joins Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Keri Russell, star of Cold War spy thriller The Americans, is the latest cast member to be announced for the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Russell will appear alongside Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as part of the human resistance in a future San Francisco in which mankind is being wiped out by a deadly virus and apes have become the dominant species.

Oldman and Smit-McPhee have experience of Earth-based dystopias, from The Road and The Book of Eli respectively, while Clarke and Russell have both played spooks: Russell in the aforementioned TV series, Clarke in this year’s Oscar nom Zero Dark Thirty. Seeking to eradicate the threat posed to the newly ascendant simians by this band of morally ambivalent survivors will be the hyper-intelligent chimp Caesar (with Andy Serkis returning for mo-cap duties).

Russell has previously worked with Rise director Matt Reeves, who co-created TV show Felicity along with J.J. Abrams, in which she played a lovelorn college student.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is due to begin filming in Spring. It’s scheduled for release on May 23 of next year.

Till then we’ll keep bringing you any developments on those damn dirty apes.
