Seth Grahame-Smith to Write Fantastic Four Reboot

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seth Grahame-Green, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and author and screenwriter of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, has been brought in to do some work on Jeremy Slater‘s script for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

Grahame-Green, who also penned Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows, is the newest addition to the project’s roster after X-Men: First Class‘ Matthew Vaughn came on-board as producer. Both Marvel and DC have developed a habit of having established franchise directors act as producers for their new generation of directors, like Christopher Nolan is doing on Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. Whether this tactic will mitigate the risk of using young/controversial talent to develop/redevelop the next wave of superhero films remains. Josh Trank, for instance, attached director to the new Fantastic Four, made his directorial debut with Chronicle only last year.

Tim Story, director of the previous effort, had only had four small-budget features behind him when he took up the helm on 2005’s Fantastic Four; then again, Vaughn only had three, albeit slightly more hero-oriented. It all seems to depend on the quality of the material, which, given the chaotic fun of AL:VH and the slapdash mess that was Dark Shadows, could presumably go either way.

In either case, the film is due out on March 6th, 2014. More on this as clobberin’ time approaches.
