Anthony Mackie Talks Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Plus Some Behind-the-Scenes Shots & Concept Art)

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Anthony Mackie compared the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in which he plays superhero Falcon, to Marvel’s flagship The Avengers:

“This movie, Captain America [2], has kind of become Avengers 1.5; if you look at the cast they’ve put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie. I mean, it’s a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Soldier.”

As well as confirming the return of Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow, Mackie suggests the film will be more of an ensemble piece. With Robert Redford as veteran S.H.I.E.L.D operative Agent Pierce and Sebastian Stan taking on Bucky’s transformation into the eponymous Winter Soldier, the ranks of the MCU continue to expand.

The new roster of The Avengers 2 would seem to still be up in air, but could Falcon, the first black MCU superhero outside of Iron Man‘s Rhodey, possible be an outside favourite?

Meanwhile, some images have been released from the currently filming production:
